Innovation in agricultural research has taken wing. From biofuels to butterflies, new technologies are on board to create a better future for people in Oregon and the world.

As you will see in this issue of Oregon’s Agricultural Progress, the future involves more women in science, more farmers in Oregon, and more technical power to track global movements of everything from whales to molecules. We’re fueling jets with plant oils and harnessing the secrets of hard-working fungi.

And as we plot our trajectory into the future, we consider memory: how a river remembers a long-removed dam; and how soil holds the memory of long-ago volcanic eruptions.

Welcome to the future. It’s happening now. Buckle your seatbelts and enjoy the flight.
